Brilliant tour to an amazing part of the world

We had a lovely day driven and guided by Nicolas. He was helpful, flexible and thoughtful. The wildlife area was superb, with large flocks of flamingoes, many other species of birds and other wildlife. The towns visited were unique and interesting, and we had clear information and plenty of time in each. Thanks Nicolas!

Bird Park

Wildlife in the delta of the Rhône river

Created by a family of nature lovers in 1949, the Bird Park is situated in the heart of the regional nature park of the Camargue. There's no better place to observe the iconic bird of the region. An easy walk along marshes and ponds, following a well-signed footpath, will allow you to get very close to pink flamingos, that cohabit here with hundreds of other bird species.

Saintes Maries de la Mer

An important pilgrimage destination for Gipsies

The Camargue is also a country of traditions and history. Discover the impressive fortified church of Saintes Maries, Our Lady from the Sea, that dominates the town since the beginning of the 11th century. Every year thousands of Gipsies from all over Europe gather up here to worship the relics of Sainte Sarah. Enjoy a refreshing walk along the beach or a swim in the Mediterranean Sea and don't forget to taste some local specialties (lunch not included).

Bulls and horses

In the heart of Camargue's traditions

All along the day, let yourself be guided through great wild scenery and enjoy a stop along the road to photograph Camargue horses and bulls. These animals are a fundamental element of the region's culture, where it is not unusal to come across a bull race or a folklore event involving horses.

Aigues Mortes

A wonderfully preserved walled city from the 13th century

Funded by King Louis IX in 1240 as a starting base for the Crusades, Aigues Mortes comes out from nowhere among salt pans and rice fields. Its massive rampart shelters narrow paved streets and small squares, where you can enjoy some shopping or taste delicious desserts. You can also opt for the sentry walk atop the rampart, which is the best way to spot the neighbouring salt marshes.

Wonderful birds in nature reserve

We had a wonderful day visiting the Pont de Gau nature reserve, Aigues Mortes and Stes Maries de la Mer. The highlight for me was seeing the flamingoes and various types of heron, as well as coypus. Nico also told us a lot about the local way of life and stopped at a farm for us to see horses and bulls. He was very informative about bull fighting and the differences between Spanish and Camargue bulls. We stopped at each place for just the right amount of time. The van was air-conditioned, which was great as it was very hot. We would not have been able to visit the Pont de Gau on public transport.
